For many of us, our best friends are sometimes furry with four legs… or scaly with no legs… or feathered with wings. Our pets are often counted as family and it’s normal to find yourself wondering if they could be affected by COVID-19, or if they could be part of the spread.
Luckily the CDC understands our worries and has pages dedicated to these kinds of questions. In a nutshell, here are the answers to some of our questions about COVID-19 and our furry, scaly, or feather friends.
Q: Can animals get COVID-19?
A: Yes, but the risk is low. At this time pets are not being routinely tested for COVID-19.
Q: Should my pet wear a mask when in public spaces?
A: No. Masks can harm pets.
Q: Do I need to quarantine or isolate my pet if someone in my household has COVID-19?
A: Yes. Pets should be considered similarly to people in situations of known or suspected COVID-19 infections. They should not be allowed to interact with people or other animals from outside the home when they have been exposed to COVID-19.
Q: What should I do if I think my pet has COVID-19?
A: Call your vet about how best to proceed.
